Program will include my "3 Apologies" with guest Christian Barros, viola

Here are notes on the piece:

In 2014, I had a remarkable ear training class at Queens College. There were only six students in the class, all of them very good, and we managed to get a lot of great work done in advanced ear training studies in a relaxed, joyful atmosphere. Part of the levity came about because not one, but two of the students – a third of the class – had the effrontery to be violists! Of course, I was not going to let such a golden opportunity pass me by, and several times per class lighthearted jabs would escape my lips. The violists – Paulina Salcedo-Watson and Christian Barros – took the ribbing with great humor, knowing in their hearts that the violists almost always end up getting the last laugh.

As a small measure to make amends, I wrote these little viola duets for them. The last of the three manages to work in a few viola jokes, and the title itself is a sly ruse: whenever the piece gets formally programmed, the audience is confronted with the very word "Apologies" printed in the program, as if they are being apologized to for having made them sit through the work. Apparently, I still get the last laugh.
